ACYR is committed to the principles of GIPA and MIPA at all levels of the organization. The use of peers as volunteers provides benefits to the entire organization as well as those who engage with it, including service users and volunteers. As peer volunteers, people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS play an integral role in ACYR’s work, from delivering services, to informing programming. As a result of their involvement as volunteers, people living with HIV/AIDS may experience reduced social isolation, strengthened self-esteem, and opportunities to develop new skills. Service users benefit from seeing peers in community leadership roles, as well as from receiving support directly from those with shared personal experiences. By engaging peer volunteers, ACYR remains a trusted source of support that is responsive to emerging needs and rooted in community.
