Volunteer Appreciation Evening July 28, 2010

Attention all ACYR Volunteers... It’s that time of year again – when all your hard work and dedication to the ACYR is praised and honored! Last year our BBQ was held during one of the Aurora Town Park Free Concert Series – we will be hosting the BBQ again this year on July 28– so come out and listen to some live music, and enjoy a BBQ! We would like to take this opportunity to show our appreciation for everything you do! We recognize that without the strong commitment of volunteers, the organization would not be what it is today.
Make sure you RSVP – I will be sure to reserve a spot for you. In order to ensure that we plan the right amount of food and refreshments, please email me by July 19. Seating will not be provided by the park, so please bring a camp chair or a blanket to sit on and enjoy the show.
The Aurora Town Park is located between Mosley St. & Metcalfe St. in Aurora. The event will be running from 6 to 9pm. Food will be served at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Look forward to seeing everyone there!

AIDS help needed here, too
Re: MPs discuss needs of people living with AIDS, June 15.
What should not be lost to the MPs involved in the caucus is the voice of Canadians living with HIV/AIDS.
I wholeheartedly support an investment in worldwide health to help treat or prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
But MP Lois Brown and other politicians need to make their presence equally strong on the local front when it comes to services relating to HIV education, prevention and support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
The needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and co-infections in York Region are not abstract concerns.
We welcome a more authentic engagement from Ms Brown and other local politicians in the work that happens in every riding every day, even as they attempt to bridge global gaps.

PRIDE activities in York Region in June and
now taking place throughout the GTA
PRIDE festivities in York Region were successfully held from June 6-13 with a range of activities for the entire week. This year's celebrations began with a church service in Richmond Hill on the first Sunday to start off the week, a movie presentation in Stouffville, social events in Newmarket, a fun youth event, and a successful barbeque/picnic at the Community Safety Village on Sunday, June 13th for the closing ceremony. PRIDE flags were raised in four municipalities (Georgina, Aurora, Stouffville & Newmarket) and the entire region proclaimed PRIDE week in a formal manner. Several community partners, including the York Regional Police and social service agencies, as well as volunteers from the LGBTTQ community gave their time to honour this important week. Congratulations to all for another successful year! Click here for picture.
